Scenes from the Big Chair is a documentary film about the British band Tears for Fears. Released on home video in 1985, the 75 minute documentary was made at the height of the band's global success following the release of their multi-platinum selling album Songs from the Big Chair. The fact Tears For Fears released more music after the 1980's seems to be ignored largely due to the success of the album portrayed in this documentary. Songs From The Big Chair was an amazing record that gave the duo the stature of becoming one of the biggest bands in the world. Taking a drastic change in the style of their music compared to their earlier album The Hurting Tears For Fears became very commercial and it worked. It contains the original Scenes From The Big Chair tour film, first released on VHS in 19856. That in itself is a very good excuse to purchase. Tears for Fears second album is the one sound of pop-rock in the 80s. Its personal psychology, meticulous compositions, and world-sized choruses evoked the loss of control in an overwhelming era. In the documentary Scenes From the Big Chair, Orzabal revealed that the method Tears for Fears adopted was fitting songs into interesting sounds. To create the sounds, the squad in Somerset set up a formidable assembly of equipment: a LinnDrum II box, a Drumulator drum box, a Roland Super Jupiter synthesizer, a Fairlight synthesizer, a DX7 keyboard, a rack of guitars, a Steinberger Bass, a Fender Stratocaster and a Gretsch maple drum kit, according to Hughes.
