The Austrian pianist Artur Schnabel was the first pianist to record all of Ludwig van Beethoven's 32 piano sonatas. The recordings were made in Abbey Road Studios in London on a C. Bechstein grand piano from 1932 to 1935, seven years after electrical recording was invented. Originally recorded on 78 rpm phonograph records for the His Master's Voice HMV recording label, the recordings have since been reissued numerous times on both LP and CD. The Complete Piano Sonatas: II. Largo, con gran espressione. I am very glad I purchased the Schnabel Beethoven Piano Sonatas. I am not sure what I expected after the much more recent recordings I have but this one did surprise me. I cannot rate it higher than I have because of the inevitable less than ideal quality of sound, but it has been fascinating to listen to the first man to record the complete set. Artur Schnabel's mid-'30s recordings of the Beethoven piano sonatas is beyond all doubt and argument the greatest set of the sonatas ever recorded. Of course, some critics point to Schnabel's lack of a virtuoso technique, which is said to mar his recordings of the Waldstein, the Appassionata, and the Hammerklavier. Schnabel's comprehension of the sonatas is so complete his insights into. Beethoven: Piano Sonatas. Jos Van Immerseel. Malcolm Sargent, Artur Schnabel. Symphony no. 1 in C major, Op. Ludwig van Beethoven 16 December 1770 26 March 1827 was a German pianist and composer of the transitional period between the late Classical and early Romantic eras. He is often regarded one of the most brilliant, prolific and influential composers of all time. Beethoven is widely regarded as a master of musical construction, sometimes sketching the architecture of a movement before he had decided upon the subject matter. He was one of the first composers to systematically and consistently use interlocking thematic devices, or 'germ-motives', to achieve unity between mo read more. Play jigsaw puzzles for free Home.
